Treasurer Vacancy

The committee has learned that our currentTreasurer who has efficiently conducted the work of the for 4 years will step down for personal reasons at the close of this year’s annual general meeting.

The Association’s programme of events is arranged by a committee of ten members. We seek to appoint an honorary treasurer who will be enthusiastic in furthering the objectives of the Association.

Specific duties of the treasurer (assisted where necessary by a vice treasurer) include:

• Maintaining the relationship with the bank to include receipts and payments for membership income or events and expenses;

• Preparing annual accounts of income and expenditure for presentation at the AGM;

• Providing a brief statement at five or six committee meetings per annum;

• Establishing costs/prices for events i.e. trips, talks and holiday;

• Banking although most transactions are conducted electronically;

• Reconciling the bank statements to the cash book;

• Collecting entry fees for talks.

We have the benefit of almost seven months for acclimatation and handover but would like to progress the arrangements quite quickly. In addition, there is support among other members of the committee.

Please bear in mind that while the post is key to the success of the Association, it does not necessarily call for a qualified accountant.

The work will involve some basic work plus peaks of activity at month end (reconciling the monthly bank statement) and at year end (for the AGM). There is also a flurry of activity at the end of January when memberships are renewed. It is difficult to advise how much time is involved in these activities.
