AMAZON

Mondaythe 1st of June saw a small group of 21  visit the Amazon fulfilment Centre in Swindon

It’s a new building just off the A420 near to Sainsbury’s, we had had to be very organised sending in our ID a week beforehand and producing this  ID once we entered the building. Following a welcome and explanation, we were then shown round this huge concern starting with the goods being received and finishing as they were being dispatched,in  our local case to the Amazon Centre at South Marston for delivery to us. Impressions, 13 miles of conveyor belts, the most ordered goods are toilet rolls., the robots were fascinating, they seem to be doing a stately dance on the robotic floor. These robots were clever enough to take themselves to docking stations to recharge their batteries. Robots didn’t do everything, there was a large workforce also involved but a lot of the decisions were made by the robots. We all wore headsets so we could easily hear the commentary from our guide

It was an interesting, informative  and the impression was that safety was very important to them

A subsequent fact has emerged, our visit was organised by a person in Rome!
