Secrets of Coleshill

30 members were treated to a fascinating day at the National Trust village of Coleshill.

In the morning we had a tour of Home Farm and the Heritage & Rural Skills Centre. We learnt how the slope of the farm had been utilised to maximise the efficiency of the farm and the importance of north facing arches for storing wagons.

After lunch we became "undercover spies" with a tour of the Operational Base underground bunker, the chicken shed with a secret wireless transmission compartment and the Guard House, where we were told about the history of the Auxiliary army. We even got to examine a dead letterbox!

Many thanks to Sarah for organising the visit and to our excellent guides for giving us such a memorable day out.
