Our first day on the holiday to Suffolk, staying at Bury St Edmunds.
We had a lunchtime stop with a soup and sandwich included at Knebworth House and Gardens.
A partly gothic Tudor house which was originally purchased by Sir Robert Lytton in 1490 and continues with the family.
In 1961 it was decided to turn the estate into a tourist attraction and subsequently it opened in 1971. Surrounding the house are 28 acres including a rose garden, and herb garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll a maze, dinosaur trail and wilderness area.
We were lucky to see a medieval jousting tournament event put on for Father’s Day a very happy coincidence.
This was an amazing start to the holiday with lovely sunshine, roses smelling their best and beautiful gardens and grounds. An excellent stop with Barrie our Barnes coach drivers smooth driving.
