CHRISTMAS NEWS FROM AVEBURY

Updated: 3 days ago

ree

Good news, Avebury is now open and to celebrate it is beautifully decorated for Christmas.  The decorations this year are based on the numerous Christmas trees and the village scenes, the white lights giving a sense of rebirth for the house.

It’s been nearly 2 years since the house was flooded by the surrounding water and it has caused much damage so it was good to see it open again, and also  to see some of the problems that the Trust have been dealing with. It is noted that there was flooding in 1775 when “ there was scare time to get the wine out” The dining room ceiling is still being supported and the Chinese wallpaper  in places damaged by the moisture seeping upwards through the house. New floorboards have been fitted, the electrics are being replaced and the damaged furniture has been discarded.

Apparently, the costs are covered by the insurance, one problem less to have to face and the Manor will go forward into the future in  a good condition
